We got a new Makita belt sander as a house warming gift today and we put it to use ASAP. The 6"x8" beams that will span the 16' width of the 1st floor ceiling are rough cut timber that were custom cut for me about 6 years ago. THey have weather all that time. After having lived in a rough cut lumber covered cabin for 6 years now, I knew that I didn't want to do it anymore. So, the 6x8's will soon be nice and smooth.
I'm kinda liking the "rustic" weathered look, leaving the saw scuff marks gray. Can't wait to see what they look like overhead.
